Start up a full blown business in just 48 hours – this has been achieved over 100 times worldwide, three of which in Germany. Join in at Startup Weekend to try your hand at founding a new company, or even just to observe, learn or pitch in on specific topics.
After the unanticipated success of the first Startup Weekend in Nuremberg in September 2009, we are especially excited to present a sequel in 2010.
Over two days, exciting ideas, diverse people with a multitude of different expectations and perspectives come together. Working off a common “bottom-up” approach and open source principles, the best ideas and concepts are brought to the fore. Participant soon learn the strengths and talent that they can contribute, with much improvisation and team work towards milestones set together. Along the way, experienced founders, mentors, advertising agencies, financial specialists, lawyers and tax accountants are there to offer advice.
Open source does not just feature in Startup Weekend’s underlying principles, all the supporting IT infrastructure, website, portal, CRM or ERP are open source software by priority. Not only that, wealth of OSBF best practices and expertise pulses through the entire event.
By Sunday evening teams have achieved more than they ever expected and can decide whether they would like to launch their company onsite. To assist, we ensure a solicitor and public notary are on hand, and take on the startup costs. Though this may be possible, the goal of the weekend lies really in the journey. The two days leading up will have been filled with an inordinate amount of dynamism and entrepreneurial energy. To witness groups form, their ideas emerge, pursued and discarded, how people inspire one another, energize and set shared visions free – that is the essence and true value of Startup Weekends.
If after the weekend, your team is still together in full throttle heading for commercialization – even when everyone has returned to their everyday lives – congratulations, you have achieved the second goal! Startup Weekend hopes to show participants that a company can be launched in a short time, when the right team and right ideas come together. Each time, attendees take home valuable personal experiences and impressions, and we can only hope that they will bring Startup Weekend to fruition in other cities too.
