OSBF Interoperability

Project goals:

Project team members have the single objective of promoting the “practical interoperability” between platforms for software vendors (ISVs), system integrators and IT business solution providers to enable the most efficient and smooth use of different platforms. “Customers should receive the interoperability they need”.

MicroFormats in the Cloud

Goals of Interop 2:

The goal of the project is to make microformatted data, including the context in which they are found, easily available. The following example should clarify the possible use cases:

The user is searching for a specific product and is therefore visiting different websites. In the context of this websearch, websites which include microformatted data, for example adresses, geo locations, dates and product descriptions, are visited. Instead of just extracting the addresses and saving them to an address book, the solution should take the context, in which the address and MF Information is found, into account. In the given example the context includes the webpage, which held the information, the date and the fact that it was found while performing a product search.

Combined with their context, microformatted data allows a whole new class of use-cases like embedding of data in activities and rating of the relevancy of a given dataset - even during later performed searches.

Perspective for Interop 2:

Microsoft is using a similar approach as Microformats with the "Open Data Protocol" (http://www.odata.org/), which differs in the underlying technology. However a mapping of Microformats to the OData Protocoll is possible. Through basic technical mapping an extensive support in Microsoft-Products could be accessed.

Therefore the collected data will be made available through an OData adapter in a second part of the project. This allows the use of these infomations in the OData ecosystem.

Development of the "Internet Service Bus"

Completion of Interop 1 in November 2009:

"The project group succeeded in using the concept of a service-oriented architecture as a basis for cloud-computing for the first time with the ISB. At the same time the platform builds a bridge between the Java and the .NET world." - Computerwelt, Nov 2009
